BS in Mechanical Science of Engineering
The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Class of 2021
Tierney grew up in a western suburb of Chicago, IL. Like a lot of young kids, Tierney was convinced she was going to grow up to be a Veterinarian. This changed when she got to high school and found herself gravitating more toward a passion for engineering.
After beginning her undergrad, Tierney’s love of animals turned into curiosity. She found herself wondering how different animals run, swim, fly, etc. and how their movement optimizes their performance as they do so. Tierney jumped at the chance to be a part of the BAM Lab in the 2020 spring semester.
Tierney is assisting on the Flying Fish project. This project is motivated by the development of unmanned multi-medium vehicles – also known as UAAVs. Tierney is currently working on developing an actuation method for the tail of the flying fish, as well as designing a testing tank for current and future aquatic vehicles in BAM Lab.
